History

The building was completed in 1940. It became a Grade II listed building in 1990, but the council want to delist it to facilitate redevelopment of the site.

Design

The building is T-shaped, with a long facade on Forty Lane. It has been described as an English interpretation of Modernism, using brick rather than concrete.
