Inter-county

Cummins first came to prominence as a hurler in the late 1960s as a member of the Cork minor hurling team. He won a Munster minor medal in 1968 before joining the county's under-21 set up. In 1970 Cummins won a Munster under-21 title before adding an All-Ireland
