Show format

The show lasts two hours, with news and sport read half-hourly between 7:00 and 9:00. A typical half-hour segment contains fifteen to twenty minutes of chat, discussing Hector's life, music or popular culture or listeners' issues. There are regular celebrity guest interviews, with the occasional live music performance. The show relies on a number of on-air contributions from background staff, with members of the production team, news and sport readers and other studio guests contributing throughout the show.

Features

How's the Country this Morning? : Listeners ring or text in with their own stories or problems. The theme continues throughout the whole programme with Hector taking calls live on air. All sorts of quirky or off-beat topics are up for discussion, including weird tattoos, how shillelaghs are made and automotive incidents.

Medium Sized Town, Fairly Big Story : This weekly segment sees Ronan Casey outline some of the more unusual or funny stories from local newspapers all over the country.

Word of the Day : A daily segment, usually airing after the 8:30 news headlines, in which newsreader Evelyn McClafferty introduces her word of the day.

The Birth Notices : This weekly segment, usually airing on a Thursday, sees Hector read out good wishes to new-born babies and to their proud parents.

Class Act : A daily quiz in which two contestants answer general knowledge questions. The winner returns each day until they are knocked out.

Where am I? : An occasional quiz in which Hector has ten questions in which to find out where in Ireland the contestant is from.

What Class of Vehicle is She? : A phone-in quiz in which Hector played a short clip of a car or tractor starting up. Listeners had to guess what the vehicle in question was.

What Class of a Dog is She? : A variation on the "What Class of a Vehicle is She?" segment. A phone-in quiz in which Hector played a short clip of a dog barking. Listeners had to guess what breed of dog it was.
