Bracknagh or Bracnagh is a small village in County Offaly
, Ireland
. It is at the junction of the R442 and R419
regional road
s, half way between Portarlington and Rathangan
(8 km from both).
It is thought that the settlement began with a small cluster of homes built around the road junction. Expansion along connected roads includes addition of two housing developments by Offaly County Council and Bord na Mona.
Due to the nearest international post office being in Kildare, Bracknagh is listed as being in Kildare on addresses it is in fact in county Offaly. It also has the Laois area phone numbers.It has a population of approx 2000 and hosts a GAA club which was founded in 1973 and were the first team to win the offaly gaa intermediate title, in 1978 captained by Seamus Comerford, this was then followed up by 2 more titles in 1983 and 2000 captained by jimmy storan and Aidan Dempsey respectivaly. at underage young people play with the parish team of clonbullogue walsh island and bracknagh known as St Broughans.
