Etymology and origin

British ethnologist H. A. Rose noted that the name is said to derive from the Persian buz ("goat"). He stated that the tribe is not descended from the Baloch patriarch Mir Chakar Rind

, but from a goat-herd who married the widow of Rind's great-grandson, Shaun Ali.

History

Historically, the Bozdar held a feud with the neighboring Ustarana

 and Sherani tribes, mainly west of Taunsa Sharif, in the Suleman ranges, Bahrti. In 1857 their raids into the Punjab drew upon them an expedition under Brigadier-General Sir N. B. Chamberlain. The Sangarh pass was captured and the Bozdars submitted. The Bozdar are traditionally known as warriors, and constitute a significant proportion of the local levy forces in the region.

Other subtribes and surnames include Sihani, Rostmani, Shahwani, Jalalani,Ahamdani, Jafirani, Khohyanri, Meernani, Hamzani, Dodani, Nurani, Nurgani, Jehanani, Dostlani, Meerkhani, Dulani, Chakrani, and Ladwani.The Rustamani are a tribe of Bozdar who mostly live in the Dera Ghazi Khan and Koh-e-suleman districts.Jehanani is the chief tribe of Bozdar with main sub tribes, Gulkhani. Gulkhani being the most un-educated tribe in Buzdar are holding key positions in Border Military Police, Govt, Non Govt Sector and business. The tribal Head Sardar Fateh Muhammad khan Buzdar for the first time introduced Mobile Network in the tribal area with the help of federal government.
