The Boston University Police Department (BUPD) is the primary law enforcement agency of Boston University

 and is charged with protection of the life and property of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on 132 acre (0.53418552 km²) of University property, as well as adjoining streets.

History

The BUPD was created through an act of legislation in October 1947.
Scott Pare is now the acting Deputy Chief as of January 6, 2008.

Organization

The current Chief of Police is Thomas G. Robbins. The BUPD has an authorized strength of 50 sworn personnel and a complement of 5 civilian support staff. The BUPD's jurisdiction is divided into three sectors:
  • East ("Alpha" sector)
  • West ("Bravo" sector)
  • South ("Charlie" sector)

Authority

All BUPD officers are certified Special State Police Officers and have full arrest authority on Boston University property and all adjoining streets. The authority of the BUPD is derived from chapter 22C, section 63 of the General Laws of Massachusetts.
