The Borough has an area of 8.6 square kilometres (3.3 mi²), and had a population of 3,068 at the 2006 census.

History

The Borough of Queenscliffe was established in May 1863.

 remaining in Victoria and Australia, and was the only LGA to escape change in the mass Victorian municipal restructuring which took place in 1994. Had the same restructuring principles which applied elsewhere in the state also been applied to Queenscliffe, the Borough would have been absorbed into the new City of Greater Geelong

Representation

The Borough, which is not subdivided into wards, is governed by a council consisting of five councillors, including the mayor. The council is elected for four year terms. The mayor is elected annually from amongst the councillors.

2008 Council Elections

The 2008 Victorian Council elections, were for the first time in history held on the same day throughout Victoria for all councils; Saturday 29 November 2008. A postal ballot was held for the Queenscliffe Borough, conducted in the week prior to ballots closing at 6.00pm on Friday 28 November 2008.

Nine individuals stood for election to the five vacancies available on council. No sitting councillors were ousted at this election. Of the former seven councillors all but John Burgess

Cr Burgess was re-elected. Joining him on the new (decreased) five seat council, are four fresh faces in Helene Butler, Lloyd Davies, former Cricket Australia
