Encyclopedia
Bonnie Gadusek is a former professional tennis player from the United States, who retired in April 1987.
Gadusek won 5 singles and 3 doubles titles during her career on the WTA Tour. The right-hander reached her highest career ranking on July 9, 1984, when she became the World No. 8. Her best Grand Slam finish were two quarterfinals at the US Open, in 1982 and 1986. Before entering the world of professional tennis, Gadusek was an aspiring gymnast; however, a broken neck prematurely ended her dreams of gymnastic glory and she turned instead to tennis. At the 1982 US Open Quarterfinals, Gadusek led eventual champion Chris Evert by a set and a break before Evert's famed baseline game went into another gear and she won the last 12 games in a row, the closest Gadusek ever came to a major upset.
