After much speculation on the show's status, it was pronounced dead in early 2009 when the show did not appear in the CW's fall schedule. However, on May 21, 2009, in a interview with Dawn Ostroff, the CW's CEO stated the show is still in consideration for midseason. On August 4, 2009, Dawn Ostroff announced that the project is officially dead for the CW.

Plot

Body Politic focuses on a young woman (Minka Kelly) who moves to Washington to work for a senator and the other eager up-and-comers with whom she becomes friends. Kelly played Frankie, an all-American girl who leaves her life in Michigan after the death of her mother and heads to D.C., where her long-lost dad, Sen. Webster (Tim Matheson), has just been appointed Attorney General, and takes a job on his staff.

Production

The show was produced by CBS Productions, one of The CW's two parent companies. The filming started in March 2009 in Washington, D.C.

Critical Response

Critics were positive enough with the 14-20 minute pilot presentation. E! Online describe it as the "Best Pilot you may never see" and that "if the CW ever wants us to take it seriously as a trademark network of our generation, it needs to branch out from its usual routine of picking up shows geared for a younger audience. The Body Politic is a cure to that problem".

Promotion

After the CW didn't pick up the pilot, the producers tried to promote the potential series to other networks including NBC and ABC. It was reported that NBC liked what they saw, but didn't have space for it and ABC was considering the series for midseason.
