Birome is an unincorporated community
in south central Hill County in Central Texas
. It is located approximately fifteen miles south of Hillsboro
, at the intersection of FM 308 and County Road 3238.
The community was established in 1910 as a shipping point on the International-Great Northern Railroad
. The name Birome is a portmanteau derived from the names of Bickham and James Cartwright, brothers who owned the 4800 acres (19.4 km²) ranch on which the community was built.
Birome had an estimated population of thirty-one in 2000. Area students attend school in the nearby town of Penelope
