. However, it is sometimes wrongly considered part of suburban Coventry (West Midlands). In the 2001 census
the parish had a population of 2,607.
The village is located 5 miles (8 km) to the east of central Coventry
, on the A428 road
, next to the junction with the A46 road
. The village of Brandon
lies 1.5 miles (2.5 km) to the east.
were sold off and people began to settle in the area. During the 1940s many homeless people from bombed-out Coventry lived in Binley, often living in shacks and caravans.
The village adopted its current name in the late 1950s, when the name Binley Woods was chosen to avoid confusion with nearby Binley
, a suburb south-west of Coventry. A village church was established in Binley Woods in 1987.

but is now owned and managed by a local group, the "Friends of Brandon Wood".
There were formerly two garages/petrol filling stations, but in recent years one has closed completely and the other no longer sells fuel.
A small supermarket can be found on Rugby Road, and there is a row of shops in Woodlands Road, including a newsagent, butcher, hairdresser, chemist, Chinese takeaway and off-licence.
There is a village hall on Rugby Road, and a small library in Monks Road.
One of Binley Woods' claims to fame is that it was used as one of the locations for the videotaping of the 1990s BBC
