The Daotianhe Reservoir, located to the north of the town was commissioned in 1965 with a rated annual capacity of 6.5 million cubic meters.

On 10 November 2011, Bijie Prefecture (毕节地区) was converted to a prefecture-level city, and the former Bijie City was rechristened Qixingguan District.
