Big Eight Conference football

The Big Eight Conference is a defunct college athletic conference that was formerly affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association
's (NCAA) Division I-A. The conference was formed in 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) by its charter schools: the University of Kansas

More schools continued to join the conference including the University of Iowa
in 1907, Iowa State University
in 1910, Kansas State University
in 1913, the University of Oklahoma
in 1919, and Oklahoma State University in 1925. In 1928, the conference split with Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma remaining together to form the Big Six Conference. The University of Colorado
was added in 1948 with the conference becoming the Big Seven Conference. Oklahoma State rejoined in 1958. The new conference name officially became the Big Eight Conference in 1964.
The conference broke up with the formation of the Big 12 Conference
in 1996.
