Butler serves on the Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media Committee, Budget Committee (Subcommittee 3 – Resources and Transportation), Business and Professions Committee, Education Committee, and Rules Committee.

She chairs the Select Committee on Aerospace and serves on these additional select committees:

Select Committee on Preservation of California's Entertainment Industry, and
Select Committee on Regional Approaches to Addressing the State's Water Crisis.

Under the 2011 redistricting lines, the 53rd Assembly District changes significantly, and Butler is expected to run for re-election in 2012 in the Santa Monica-based 50th Assembly District.
