He retired following a loss in his next bout in 1994.Prior to his fight with McGuigan, he fought Eusebio Pedroza in October 1982, and after having a lead after ten rounds, he faded down the stretch and had to settle for a draw.Taylor did manage to win the NABF featherweight and the USBA jr lightweight title, coming from behind to stop Calvin Grove in the latter fight.
