Bernard arrived in Emmerdale in late 1993 with wife Angharad, daughter Jessica and son Luke. The moment they set foot in Emmerdale, trouble came their way. Kathy Tate developed an unhealthy crush on Bernard after her marriage to her husband Chris came to an end. Bernard's son Luke got involved in a fight with Ben Dingle at a rave and his death lead to a long lasting feud with the Dingles. One of the doctors who examined Ben's body was a friend of Bernard's and concluded that he had died from a heartv defect. The Dingles believed that the McAllisters had destroyed evidence and tried to make the McAllister's lives as difficult as possible. It was the last straw for Bernard and in early 1995 he made plans to leave the village to move back to London with Angharad and Jessica. Luke stayed behind to finish his A Levels but got involved with Tina Dingle, Ben's sister, and they planned to marry although it was later revealed that Tina was stringing him along for revenge on Ben's death. Bernard and the rest of the family did not attend the wedding. Luke died after crashing Dave Glover
's van but Bernard wanted him buried in London as he didn't want to set foot in Emmerdale again.
