. It was built in 1868 and is a rectangular one-story, three-bay frame building which rests on an uncoursed rubblestone foundation. Originally a two story building with the second floor housing Hosanna Church, a hurricane destroyed the second story in the 20th century but left the ground floor schoolroom intact. It is one of four structures erected in Harford County in the years immediately following the Civil War

 for the purpose of educating freed slaves. It was built and by private sources because efforts of the Freedmen's Bureau proved ineffective in this part of Maryland It was used as a school for African Americans until 1945 when the school ceased operation.
