, 14 October 1918. Corporal Buck advanced alone beyond the front lines, through a terrific barrage and in the face of unusually active machine-gun fire, to the rescue of a wounded comrade. While making his way through the wood he came upon two other members of the company whom he utilized as a patrol attacking and capturing an enemy machine-gun nest, together with six prisoners. He then went to the rescue of the wounded soldier, forcing the prisoners to carry the man to the rear.
