Belgaum Airport also Sambra Air Force Station is an airport located 10 km (6.2 mi) of Belgaum

on SH20. Its also a Air Force Station with basic Training Institute in Sambra. Sambra is a small village situated at a distance of 17 Kms from Belgaum Railway Station and is connected with Belgaum City by a State Highway.
The airport needs an extension of 800 m (2,624.7 ft) so as to land Boeing 737-800 or A320 types of planes. The runway
is already wide enough but the length is the constraint. The second taxiway
near the emergency service enclave is under construction and after connecting it to the main apron
it will cater to VIP terminal
. The present apron is also limited for Avro or ATR. To allow a Boeing it will needs a small expansion on either southeast or southwest side of old taxiway by at least 80 m (262.5 ft) by 100 m (328.1 ft).
Work on expansion of the Belgaum airport is on full swing.The government has been able to acquire all the 298 acres (1.2 km²) around the airport required to upgrade it and is ready to hand them over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
