Becoming Jane Austen is a book by Jon Spence, published by Hambledon Continuum, on which the film Becoming Jane
is based. It chronicles the facts of the relationship between Jane Austen
and Tom LeFroy, based on letters sent by Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra. These facts were later elaborated into fiction for the film, on which Spence was a historical consultant.
A new paperback edition of the book came out from Continuum on 14 June 2007.
This relationship was also used as the basis for "Jane and Tom: The Real Pride and Prejudice", a radio play by Elizabeth Lewis. It was first broadcast on 1 June 2007, starring Jasmine Hyde
