The first and oldest neighbourhood in Kanata, Beaverbrook is known for its hedged houses and community facilities. The area was mostly residential until the 1960s when developer and planner Bill Teron set about creating a planned community. The community didn't grow as he had originally planned, but eventually became the City of Kanata, founded in 1978. Beaverbrook is also home to Canadian businessman Terry Matthews
