. The unique name is credited by James W. Patton and Charlotte Kerry; in which James teased his sister-in-law Charlotte by strolling on the mountain with her beaux, that he dubbed the mountain "Charlotte's Beaucatcher." Its elevation reaches 2694 feet (821 m), providing views of Downtown Asheville.

The mountain acts as the eastern border downtown Asheville and has three main roads that either go over or through the mountain: US 70/US 74A via Beaucatcher Tunnel (completed in 1930), I-240

Since the 1880's, Beaucatcher Mountain has provided drinking water to the city of Asheville, with two reservoirs located on the mountain: White Flawn Reservoir and Lake Kenilworth. Waters from the mountain eventually make there way to the French Broad River
