Style

Eclectic electronic mix, combining mainstream music with underground dubs and the common "wobble" bass used by many dubstep musicians. [3] Many songs contain multiple techniques of composition, such as: a sudden shift from double to triple meter, a sudden drop into half-timings, multiple layers of synthesized arpeggios, rappers, singers, vocal samples pitch-shifted and time-stretched.[4] The most utilized characteristic is focus on various tempos.[5] He uses the broad spectrum of speeds in electronic genres to create what he calls, "omni-tempo maximalism," and describes it as, "an amalgamation of every sound I've ever heard, mixed with ultra wicked basslines."

Live Performances

On June 18, 2011, Bassnectar played to a sold out crowd at Morrison, Colorado's acclaimed venue Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Prior to the performance, slight controversy and excitement erupted as Bassnectar publicly tweeted and posted on facebook that he would be bringing his own speakers to the venue for the show. Lorin himself was quoted on the Red Rocks website discussing the highly anticipated live event; "Our goal is to create the best sounding experience in the history of the venue: we are gonna paint these rocks with bass, we’re gonna let loose the hounds of madness, and hold hands as we dive headfirst into the experiment of participation that is a Bassnectar event." However, due to many violations (mostly for noise and city ordinances) Lorin and his staff were fined in excess of $100,000 following the show. Many producers and DJs from around the world contributed financially to Bassnectar to support his decision and reduce the fines.

In 2011, Bassnectar made his first appearance in France for the Electronic Beaches in Cannes where approximately 6,000 people attended.
