at the start of the 2006 season in his search for first team opportunities. Starting his Kildare County career as a left full back, Clancy was an instant hit at Station Road as the small statured defender makes up for his lack of height through his never ending industry on the pitch. Following continued impressive displays, Clancy signed a new contract at the end of the 2007 season keeping him at Kildare County for the 2008 season but Clancy would depart struggling Kildare in July 2008 to join First Division rivals Monaghan United.

Monaghan United

For the remainder of the 2008 season at Monaghan United Clancy continued to be deployed at left back but for the 2009 season Monaghan manager Mick Cooke advanced Clancy to the left wing. Clancy was an instant hit in his new attacking role utilising his pace and crossing abilities to contribute 11 goals for the season. Monaghan continued their on field improvement in the 2010 First Division campaign as Clancy continued to be a regular in the team but a heartbreaking play-off defeat on penalties to Bray Wanderers saw Clancy and Monaghan miss out on promotion to the Premier Division.

Return to Shelbourne

On 14 December 2010, Clancy returned to Shelbourne for their 2011 First Division campaign, linking up with his former Kildare County assistant manager Barry O'Connor in the process.
