. The trail is rated more difficult because of its long sustained grade rising to an especially high elevation. Halfway up the trail is Barr Camp, 2 acres (8,093.7 m²) with a cabin, benches, and picnic table that provides both overnight accommodations and food and drink for purchase.

Barr Trail was designed and built by Fred Barr from 1914 to 1921. Barr Camp was built between 1921 and 1924.
