Barr Pharmaceuticals was a global specialty pharmaceutical company that operated in more than 30 countries worldwide. Barr were engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of generic and proprietary pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals and active pharmaceutical ingredients.
On July 18, 2008, it was announced that rival firm, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, would acquire Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc for $7.46 billion plus the assumption of net debt of approximately $1.5 billion. Today Barr Laboratories exists only as a sub-division of Teva Pharmaceuticals, as part of the Teva Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (TAPI)
division.
