The title of Baron Poynings was created twice in the Peerage of England

The first creation was for Thomas Poynings, who was summoned to parliament on 23 April 1337. On the death of the fifth baron in 1446, it was inherited by his heiress, Eleanor Percy, née Poynings, who was married to Sir Henry Percy, who was summoned to parliament on her behalf and died in 1461; on her death in 1482, she was succeeded by their heir, who was summoned to parliament as Lord Percy

The title Baron Percy has been created several times in the Peerage of England. The first, in 1066 a Feudal Barony rather than a peerage, became extinct in 1299. The second, in 1299, became extinct in 1517. The third, in 1557, became extinct in 1670. The present creation was in 1722, by writ of...

 in 1473, when he was restored to the earldom of Northumberland

 with which titles the barony then merged until the extinction of the earldom in 1670, when the baronies seemed either to fall into abeyance or to become extinct.

The second creation was for another Thomas Poynings, who was summoned to parliament on 20 January 1545. On his death in the same year's summer, the barony became extinct.
