Halyard High School closed its doors in August 2007 and re-opened as Barnfield West Academy on September 1, 2007. The academy enjoys a federation with its sister institution, Barnfield South Academy and their sponsor, Barnfield College. a £30m transformation of existing school building, this was part of BSF
(Building Schools for the Future) Program. This was completed in early March 2011, the new 'State of the Art' Building was given the keys to the Principal on 28 February, after this the principal Mr. Andrew Hardy has said 'it is official, this new modern building is now Barnfield West Academy'. Also, the old building has been demolished to make way for a car park and sport
