Bari Imam or Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi, is the patron saint of Islamabad and the greater Potohar region. His spiritual title is Sultan-ul-Fuqra. His father, Syed Mehmood Shah, a sufi of standing, shifted his family from Karsal Village, Chakwal, to Bagh village, presently called Aabpara, Islamabad. Bari Imam, through his younger days, grazed animals. Many miracles are attributed to Bari Imam as a child.
Bari Imam left his family on his spiritual quest while he was still a teenager. He shunned human coa is still held at the venue, where Bari Imam emerged out of water with his flesh eaten up by the fish. From Lallan Pooto, Bari Imam travelled back to humankind, and settled at a place which was inhabited by bandits and was appropriately called Choor pur (the village of thieves). Owing to his spiritual presence, the nature of the village changed; and it was later named as Nur pur (the village of light) - the title it still carries. This is where the main annual Mela of Bari Imam is held. The last Mela was attended by 1.2 million people.

Currently, the shrine of Bari Imam is being expanded and renovated; initiated by the previous Prime minister of Pakistan.
