Cañizares was called up to the Atlanta Braves June 11, 2009 making his major league debut the same day batting fourth and playing first base.

Mexican League

After the 2010 season he was released by the Braves and was signed by the Guerreros de Oaxaca prior the 2011 season.
In his first season he was the batting champion after batting .396
