Laying of cables to connect the wind farm started on July 23, 2009. The 200 km connection is the longest connection to an offshore wind farm in the world. It is the first connection of an offshore wind park realized as HVDC

The construction of the wind turbines began in March 2010. 15 of the 80 turbines had been installed by the end of 2010, and the first turbine became operational at the beginning of December 2010. Construction is planned to be completed in 2012. The construction is assisted by the purposed-built Wind Lift 1 barge / platform, which places the 470 ton, 21 meter foundations on the sea bed.
