History

Avanza was founded in 1997 as the first online stock broker

in Sweden.
In 2001 it merged with HQ.se and Aktiespararna's brokerage firm Aktiespar. This merger made Avanza the largest online broker in Sweden with more than 150 000 active customers and a 50% market share among the online brokers.

In May 2006, Avanza acquired Börsveckan AB - the company behind the stock magazine with the same name.

In September 2006, Avanza launched the online magazine Placera Nu, with Peter Benson as chief editor. In January 2008 Gunnar Wrede was appointed new chief editor.
