History

Australia competed in its first Fed Cup in 1963

. They are one of four nations to have competed in every edition of the tournament. Australia have won the Cup on seven occasions, making them the second most successful team.

In 2007, Australia was placed in the World Group II but lost to Austria (1-4) in the World Group II tournament and to Ukraine (1-4) in the World Group II playoff. As a result, Australia was relegated to Asia/Oceania Group I. In 2008, Australia didn't qualify for the World Group II playoff, but were not relegated to the Asia/Oceania Group II.
