, a city of 14,033 (2012 U.S. Census estimate). The school serves about 1,550 students from ninth through twelfth grades. The minority rate is 37% and the free/reduced lunch rate is 49%.

The school operates on a 7 period a day bell schedule, allowing for 50 minute classes with 5 minutes passing time. With the addition of a 9th grade academy, AHS has created a warm and nurturing environment for incoming freshmen. Graduations are held on the football field on campus yearly. Construction has been underway for the past few years; AHS has seen a new media center, added parking, and new centrally-located cafeteria added already. Still to come in the future will be new academic buildings.

History

The school has been at its present location since 1953. In 1973 the North Campus building was opened which housed 8th and 9th grade students. In 1979 a tornado destroyed the nearby Auburndale Middle School; in 1984 Stambaugh Middle School was built. The North Campus building was combined with the high school campus and AHS has been a grade 9-12 center since 1989.

Student Recognitions

Bloodhound Achievement Recognition Committee (BARC) is an achievement recognition program which rewards students for making the honor roll (3.0 weighted grade point average with no D’s or F’s) and/or for having perfect attendance (no absences, tardies or check-outs). These students are excused from class to attend an assembly with a variety of entertainment. They receive a BARC t-shirt the first nine weeks they qualify by grades or the second grading period they qualify by attendance. Auburndale High School believes the students should be honored for their hard work and that good attendance goes hand
in hand with good grades.

Straight "A" Recognition is where all students achieving straight "A's" will be recognized. The students will be escorted by bus to lunch at an area restaurant and presented with a certificate.

Teacher's Choice Awards where each teacher can select one student per grading period to be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of character, attitude, diligence, citizenship, conduct and/or any significant accomplishment (s). Students are presented with a special breakfast and various
awards.

Underclassmen and Senior Awards are given once a year to those that are deserving recognition.
