Atomium Culture AISBL is an International Non-Profit Organisation that
brings together major European universities, newspapers and businesses in a
shared platform for the selection, exchange, and dissemination of
particularly significant European research, . The organisation was
founded in 2006 by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Michelangelo Baracchi

From 2006 to 2009 Atomium Culture developed its start-up engaging leading universities, major newspapers, and important businesses in Europe. In November 2009 the Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture was launched publicly. At this time it was operative in eighteen countries in Europe and engaged 25 universities, over one hundred thousand researchers, over one million students, seventeen newspapers, around ten million European readers per day, and some of the most important businesses in Europe with a total turnover of 720 Billion Euros http://www.elpais.com/especial/atomium-culture/%20 and around ninety thousand researchers engaged.
On 9 November 2009, Bonvicini and Giscard d’Estaing signed the European Manifesto of Atomium Culture, a document outlining the vision for Europe based on its best research and its most innovative ideas as catalyzing and aggregating elements of the useful diversity of Europe.
On 27 November 2009 they presented the Permanent Platform for European Excellence of Atomium Culture at the European Parliament in Brussels, during the Platform's first annual conference. The chair of the Conference was Geoff Mulgan

Area of Dissemination
The Area of Dissemination promotes flow of information between research and society , bringing the attention of the public to the results of European research and promoting a dynamic communication among those engaged in the work and the general public.
In light of the growing importance of research in modern life and the need to bridge the gap between research and society, the newspapers engaged in the Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture have come together to bring to their readers interesting and innovative ideas coming from European research .
Area of Exchange
The Area of Exchange periodically brings together people from universities, business, newspapers and policy making r to create comprehensive intersectorial and interdisciplinary debates; these debates can then be followed by the public at large to improve understanding of questions of public concern.
Every semester, the Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture organizes a High-Level Workshop (HLW) in collaboration with the actors engaged in the platform and with the main policy makers on topics of public interest that have their foundations within research, innovation and culture.
Area of Knowledge Transfer
The Area of Knowledge Transfer includes the activities that the platform is currently developing in order to create the European Coordination Body for Knowledge Transfer. This body, currently under construction, intends to be a point of contact between the different technology transfer offices of the European universities and businesses engaged in the platform in order to create a transparent flexible structure for the development of innovative ways of fostering these partnerships.
The Executive Board http://atomiumculture.org/node/79 is the main decision making body, setting the goals and making the necessary decisions, taking into account the advice of the Advisory Board.
The Management Team http://atomiumculture.org/node/97 is responsible for the management of the daily activities, of maintaining the relations with the actors engaged in the permanent platform and the coordination of the joint activities.
The Editing Office http://atomiumculture.org/node/99 is responsible for facilitating the communication of the innovative research selected.
The Presidency http://atomiumculture.org/node/60 is composed of the Honorary President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and the President Michelangelo Baracchi Bonvicini. The Presidency ensures the moral and ethical continuity of the project. They address their advice to the Executive Board.

The mission of Atomium Culture is to encourage the development of a knowledge society in Europe by increasing the cooperation and dialogue between the institutions engaged, to increase public interest in science and to create a dynamic environment to prevent a brain drain from Europe..History
In 2006 the Permanent Platform of Atomium Culture was formally founded under the Law of Belgium as an International Non-Profit Organisation (Association International Sans But Lucratif).From 2006 to 2009 Atomium Culture developed its start-up engaging leading universities, major newspapers, and important businesses in Europe. - The Advisory Board http://atomiumculture.org/node/63 is composed of representatives from each sector engaged in the permanent platform;
- The Scientific Committee http://atomiumculture.org/node/98 is composed of leading professors, nominated by some of the universities engaged in the permanent platform;
- The Editorial Committee http://atomiumculture.org/node/96 is composed of the Chief Science Editors nominated within some of the newspapers engaged. In January 2010 these are the Chief Science Editors of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Le Monde, El Pais, Il Sole 24 Ore and Irish Times.
