The NHL
's Atlantic Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Eastern Conference
in a league realignment, the predecessor of which was the Patrick Division
. It is the only division in the NHL where all of its current members have won the Stanley Cup
at least twice, though only three teams have won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Atlantic Division. The Atlantic Division has the shortest distances between teams in the NHL; all five teams are within 410 miles of each other.
Unlike the other two Eastern Conference divisions, the Atlantic Division never had any Canadian teams before. Although its predecessor, the Patrick Division, had only one Canadian team before
