Association of Building Sustainability Assessors

The Association of Building Sustainability Assessors (ABSA) is an Australian not-for-profit national membership organisation whose core business is to accredit, certify and conduct training for residential building sustainability assessors.

ABSA has two accreditation programs:
  • Home Energy Rating Scheme
    House Energy Rating
    A House Energy Rating is an index of a building's thermal performance for residential homes in Australia....

    assessors who use simulation software to predict the thermal performance of a building at the planning stage and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Home Sustainability Assessment Scheme assessors who provide simple measure of energy, water and other sustainability factors of an existing home and also make recommendations for improvement.


ABSA has offices in Sydney and Melbourne and works regionally and in other States through member groups.

ABSA's services include:
  • training and support for sustainability assessors and members
  • advice and information for Government Departments, Councils, building professionals and consumers
  • seminars and events dealing with sustainability issues
  • accreditation and quality assurance schemes for assessors.
