History

In 1987, recognizing a niche in the golf market, John Ashworth founded the Ashworth Golf Company. Traveling from the west coast of California to the PGA show in Orlando, John Ashworth set up a 10x10 booth and for the first time showcased the Ashworth line, an asspirational collection of comfortable, cotton-knit shirts with the trademark Golfman logo that captured the sole of the game and translated well on and off the course.

Creating contemporary, lifestyle-oriented golf apparel synonymous with authenticity and quality, Ashworth sought professional golfers who possess a passion for golf; its history, heritage, and values and virtues. They found that with Fred Couples, who joined Ashowrth in 1988, beginning one of the most successful endorsement partnerships in golf history.

In the early 1990’s Ashworth and Couples seemed to feed off each other’s success, with Ashworth growing from upstart California company to the market leader, while Couples was gaining fame as both a premiere player and one of golf’s most fashionable dressers. His natural talent and charisma has made him a fan favorite both on and off the course and his style fit perfectly with the Ashworth brand.

In November of 2008, Ashworth became a wholly owned subsidiary of TaylorMade-adidas Golf, complimentary to the synthetic, performance fabrics of adidas Golf. In 2009, Sean O'Hair, and Ryan Palmer joined long-time Ashworth ambassador Fred Couples to help represent the brand on professional tours worldwide.

Over the past 20 years, the Ashworth trademark and the brand’s classic golfman logo have become synonymous with golf lifestyle, and a leadership position in the golf community, representing quality and authenticity for the core golfer.
