Ashurnasirpal I was king of Assyria
from 1050 BCE to 1031 BCE. Ashurnasirpal ruled during a troubled period of Assyrian history, marked by famine and war with nomads from the deserts to the west. He succeeded his father Shamshi-Adad IV
and was succeeded by his son Shalmaneser II
. He was also the father of a later king, Ashur-rabi II
