Veronkha's soldier husband, Philbin, suffers from amnesia and believes it to be his wedding night. Boles obsessively believes that Veronkha is Iris. Meanwhile, the wars rage on in the Arctic night, and everyone performs heroically, albeit in a sort of amnesia
