Araminta Star Matthews was born in Lisbon, Maine

. She took an interest with reading and storytelling very early in her childhood. Writing her first story at the age of five, Matthews has devoted her life toward a career in the craft. As a child, rather than spend most of her summers outside, she would instead stay in the town’s library reading over its entire collection of literature. In school she contributed many writings to local and national newspapers aimed at teenagers. She studied at the University of Maine at Farmington

 for her BFA in Creative Writing; served as intern for a small poetry press; and was assistant editor for her campus literary magazine. She also founded a short-lived zine based on the premise of life transitions called Gigantic Insect.

Along with being a Writing and Humanities instructor at a school in central Maine, Matthews freelances her writing ability in various places across the Internet; including, but not limited to: Helium, eHow, and Front Street Reviews. She has contributed product descriptions for Teresa Deleen Handmade Jewelry, along with co-writing a theme-party cookbook at Appetizerstogo.com. She is also a board member for the Literacy Volunteers of Androscoggin County; a program helping adults acquire basic reading, writing and math skills.

One of her more prominent roles in the writing community, however, would be the position of Managing Editor/Marketing Director at Dark Moon Digest: the Horror Fiction Quarterly

In 2011, Dark Moon Books published her first novel, Blind Hunger. It is a young adult story detailing the events of a zombie outbreak affecting only the adults in a small town, leaving behind all the children to fend for themselves. Blind Hunger was praised on Wreckhouse Magazine for its originality in the zombie genre, while also managing to stick to familiar traditions. There will be a four-part prequel of the novel serialized in upcoming issues of Dark Moon Digest, according to its homepage. Matthews is also said to be working on a book about writing, co-written with Stan Swanson and Rachel Lee.

She currently lives in Maine with her husband.
