Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the Overthrow
Encyclopedia
The Front of the Greek Anticapitalist Left, in Greek Anticapitalist Left Cooperation for the Overthrow is a coalition of radical left political organisations in Greece
. The Greek word antarsia (which is pronounced the same as the acronym Antarsya) means "mutiny". ANTARSYA describes itself as "Front of the anticapitalist, revolutionary, communist left and radical ecology".
ANTARSYA was founded on 22 March 2009 in Athens by 10 organisations and independent militants involved in the Radical Left Front
(MERA) and United Anti-Capitalist Left
(ENANTIA) with the exception of the Workers Revolutionary Party
(ΕΕΚ). These organisations come from different left wing currents ranging from ex- KKE and KKE Interior members, to maoism
and trotskyism
.
ANTARSYA is based on local assemblies of militants at city or neighbourhood-level with a central coordination committee in Athens. There are also periodically national assemblies of ANTARSYA.
. It took 21,951 votes or 0.43% of the votes, which was the best result ever for an anti-capitalist left list in European elections in Greece. ANTARSYA also participated in the October 4th, 2009 general elections
presenting lists in every constituency. With 24,737 votes and 0.36%, this is the best result for the anti-capitalist left in general elections in Greece since Metapolitefsi
. It is an increase of almost 3,000 votes from the European elections, though most of the anti-capitalist lists tend to score much less in general than the European elections, where the vote is more "loose". ANTARSYA's campaign was centered on a programme to answer to the economic crisis based on workers' rights. Key demands were banning of lay-offs, a minimum salary of 1,400 euros, a reduction of weekly working time to 35 hours without reduction of wages, nationalisation without compensation under workers control of the banking system, of businesses shuting down and of privatised public services, but also the disarmament of police, full political and social rights for immigrants and an ecosocialist answer to ecological crisis
. In the local elections held in November 7th, 2010
the platforms supported by ANTARSYA took more than 98,000 votes or 1.75% of the votes.
