Modern history

In 1986, several towns of Hwaseong county became incorporated, representing the beginning of Ansan as a city. With currently over 500,000 residents, Ansan now has 2 distinct and separate districts: Danwon, which counted 13 dongs as of Nov 2002, and Sangnok, with 11.
