Animal Health Board (New Zealand)

The Animal Health Board commonly known by its acronym, AHB, is an incorporated society, legally responsible for managing and implementing the National Pest Management Strategy (NPMS) for bovine tuberculosis (bovine TB) in New Zealand
. Its powers derive from the Biosecurity Act 1993 and its mission is to eradicate bovine TB from New Zealand. The AHB is made up of representatives from the farming sector and local government. It is accountable to its member organisations and it also has responsibilities to the Minister of Agriculture.

Governance and funding
Governance of the AHB is managed by a Board of Directors who are appointed by the member organisations through the Animal Health Board Representatives’ Committee. Its delivery of the TBfree New Zealand strategy is funded by central Government, regional council contributions and the farming sector.Research
The AHB contracts approximately $2.5 million per annum in applied research. Its Annual Research Report communicates the results of research undertaken over the relevant year.External links
