Under the leadership of the Anhui Provincial Government, the Anhui University of Finance and Economics (AUFE), founded in 1959 and originally named Anhui Institute of Finance and Trade, is now a university specializing in finance and economics, covering disciplines in economics, management, law, arts, sciences, engineering, and history. AUFE has been one of the first universities awarded the right to grant bachelor’s degrees and one of the second universities awarded the right to grant master’s degrees.

Educational environment

Located in Bengbu City, center of the Huaihe River Basin, AUFE, with a total area of 701,000 square metres, comprises three campuses: Longhu Lake East, Longhu Lake West, and Jiaotong Road, with the Longhu Lake East Campus and the Longhu Lake West Campus on the two sides of the Longhu Lake, a national AAAA-class scenic district. Its library holds 1.8 million volumes, 0.52 million electronic volumes, and 1,700 Chinese and foreign periodicals. The university facilities include laboratories, research centers, swimming pools, gymnasia, and playgrounds.

Qrganization

AUFE consists of thirteen schools, two departments, three university-affiliated and ten school-affiliated research institutions. The University awards bachelor's degrees in 41 academic disciplines, master's degrees in two Level I academic disciplines and 28 Level II academic disciplines. In addition, three special programs are offered: MBA, JM, master’s degrees for on-post college teachers. The university has four Key Research Bases at provincial or ministerial level, one A-class and four B-class key disciplines at provincial level, three state-level characteristic undergraduate majors, two provincial-level characteristic undergraduate majors, four provincial-level demonstration majors, two provincial-level demonstration centers for experimental teaching, and 28 provincial-level quality courses.

Faculty

There are over 1,070 professional teachers and 115 of them are full professors and 335 of them associate professors.

International exchange and cooperation

The university has established relations with universities and research institutions from countries worldwide. It has invited experts and scholars from home and abroad to give lectures to the students. Teachers from AUFE have been sent to countries or regions like Japan, U.S.A, Italy, Germany, France, Britain, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Romania, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao, either as visiting scholars or as students to pursue further study there.

Academic research

Since 2004, the university has won 693 research projects, 27 of which are sponsored by the state, and 247 by Anhui Province. Over 6,500 academic papers were published and 112 books printed. 43 achievements in scientific research have been awarded provincial, ministerial or national prizes. The periodical Finance and Trade Research funded by AUFE is a source periodical for CSSCI.

It has three research institutions that are directly under AUFE, eighteen virtual research departments, and four key research bases at provincial and ministerial level, including Research Center of Economic Development (RCED), Research Center of Cooperative Economics (RCCE), Bases of Cotton Project Research and Training (BCPRT), and Bases of Cooperative Economics Research and Training (BCERT). RCED and RCCE and two major research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences in Anhui Province’s higher education, BCPRT and BCERT are two research bases of All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives.

Since 2005, the university has undertaken 812 research projects among which 23 are at national level and 43, Philosophy and Social Sciences, at Education Ministerial level, and 265 at provincial and ministerial levels. 5558 papers and 110 academic works of various kinds have been published, in which 37 academic awards at or beyond provincial level and ___ teaching awards. 217 academic reports by visiting scholars and 870, by university’s own scholars have been delivered for undergraduates and graduates. 11 national academic seminars have been held.
