. However, with both Salmon and Ammann injured towards the end of the 1995-96 season, Petterson played well enough in the final nine games, conceding only five goals, to earn a new contract. He began the following season as Salmon's deputy, but after his return to the side in January 1997 became first choice, winning the club's player of the year award at the end of the season. The start of the 1997-98 season saw Petterson as Charlton's first choice keeper, but lost his place to first Salmon and then Sasa Ilic
