After his debut with the club in the first match of the 2006–07 season, some fans began to concern that he was overrated. As the season went on, his lack of pace and inability to clear the ball were often criticized by fans and local media.
After a series of disappointing performance, Correia was sacked by South China in November 2006. He then returned to Portugal to play for C.D. Portosantense and then moved do G. D. Estoril Praia.
