 Public Service Commission (APPSC) was formed when the State of Andhra Pradesh formed on November 1, 1956.  Earlier the commission was known as the Andhra Service Commission (formed in 1953)which based on the regulations of Madras Public Service Commission. Later in 1956, APPSC was formed by merging the Andhra and Hyderabad Public Service Commissions.

 had inaugurated the swank four storied 'Pratibha Bhavan' housing the office of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). The office is beside Gandhi Bhavan of Nampally.

Functions

The major function of APPSC is that it makes Direct Recruitment under the Article 320 (1) of Constitution of India.
Recruitments are mostly Lecturers, Doctors, Engineers, Deputy collectors, Forest Officers, Police Officers, Clerks and others.

Reforms

The new scheme of syllabus for Group 1 and Group 2 was sketched by B.R.K.Raju, former Chairman Incharge. During the tenure of Y.S Rajashekara Reddy, he sent this proposal to the Government to bring reforms in the Commission. The reforms include bringing in a new pattern of examination and revision of the existing syllabus, especially in Group 1 and Group 2. The idea behind the reforms is to eliminate any scope for mischief and allow more transparency in the recruitment process. This new reform helped A.P.P.S.C in doing justice for all castes of students. With these reforms, A.P.P.S.C stood as the best in India.
