The railway was opened by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen

 line 50 opened, running parallel with the line between Isolatorweg (between Amsterdam Centraal and Sloterdijk) and Henk Sneevlietweg (south of Amsterdam Lelylaan).

Route

The line leaves Amsterdam Centraal in a westerly direction towards Amsterdam Sloterdijk, along with the Oude Lijn to Haarlem. The line passes Amsterdam Zaanstraat depot 2 km (1.2 mi) from Amsterdam Centraal, where the Oude Lijn also leaves. Shortly after this the freight line to Amsterdam Westhaven leaves. 4 km out of Amsterdam Centraal the metro line starts at Isolatorweg. This runs parallel to the railway for 6 km. Amsterdam Sloterdijk is a bi-level station, with the bottom lines being for Haarlem and Zaandam

, while the platforms on the line to Schiphol (in a southwards direction) are above this. Shortly after this the Hemboog with the line from Zaandam joins on, passing through the former station of Amsterdam De Vlugtlaan. 1.5 km (0.93205910497471 mi) after Amsterdam Lelyaan the metro line branches off to the east, while the line branches off to the west, where it joins the Schiphollijn
