History

The original station opened in 1981 when it was a terminus station, with just one platform and the station had no signals

. At RAI station you could walk straight onto GVB tram route 4 to central station without changing platforms.

In 1988 the tram terminus moved to street level below the station. This was due to the building of Amsterdam Metro

 line 51 next to the railway station. This line began operating in 1990. The roof of the railway station was built in 1997. The new station was built in 1991 and Amsterdam RAI became an island platform station and then in 1993 the line was extended towards Weesp.

Trains

Trains serving in 2008 are only stoptrains and sprinter's. There are 6 trains per hour calling at the station with many non-stopping trains.

From station Amsterdam RAI you can travel in the directions
  • Weesp–Almere (2x per hour)
  • Weesp–Hilversum-Utrecht Centraal (2x per hour)
  • Amsterdam Zuid (4x per hour) – Schiphol (4x per hour) – Leiden Centraal (2x per hour)


During some conferences at the RAI Intercities from Leeuwarden/Groningen - Schiphol and Enschede/Deventer - Schiphol also stop at the station.
